Exploring Nature - The Daisy Way!

Today Rylie's Daisy Scout troop took a field trip to the Nature Discovery Center in Bellaire. It ended up being a pretty good trip! Normally when we go to Daisy meetings I have to drag Chase along & he's the only sibling running around. . . well today there were at least 3 other little boys for him to run around with (one being his buddy Brandon). So it was nice to enjoy a Daisy event for a change w/out having to "sshh" him the whole time!!!

We started out by taking a tour of this little house that was turned into the Nature Discovery Center. They got to learn about animals such as quail, prarie dogs, millipedes, snakes, turtles, etc. We got to see a HUGE millipede which was positively grotesque (way too many legs) & the kids got to see 2 live snakes up close! Yuck! I stayed way back on the other side of the room w/ my friend Robin! You won't catch me near snakes! The kids were given the opportunity to pet one of the snakes & Rylie quickly got up & came to stand w/ me! Chase on the other hand showed me that he is a true boy - he took more than one turn at petting the snake & didn't get bothered when he had his back turned & the snake nearly crawled down the collar of his shirt! It freaked me out though! He also enjoyed petting a turtle,a rabbit & looking at a tarantula! After our tour of the house & learning about nature, we took a tour outside where we walked around an herb garden, saw some live quail, & finally the PLAYGROUND - every kids' favorite part! The girls made pine cone bird feeders, but Rylie opted not to. . she was too busy playing! Then we all had a picnic lunch outside & then headed home! They all had a great time! Rylie was so excited that her good friend Krisitn was there. They played together the whole time & everywhere they went they were holding hands & laughing! Such giggleboxes they are!
